Sobie Road bust nets $2 million in marijuana

Since the beginning of June members of the Guns, Gangs, and Grows Unit, the 3 District Street Crime Unit, and the Biker Enforcement Unit conducted a joint investigation into an elaborate marijuana grow operation.

As a result of this investigation , on Tuesday police obtained a CDSA search warrant for a Sobie Road, Grimsby residence.

At 3:25 p.m. members of the Emergency Tactical Unit, K-9 Unit, SEU Unit, GGG Unit, BEU Unit and the 3 District SCU executed the warrant and took three males into custody.

Police searched the property and located and seized 2370 marijuana plants, with a potential street value of nearly $2.4 million.

Charged with one count of production of marijuana, possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon is 48-year-old John Hibbert, 51-year-old Gordon Brown, 25-year-old Kyle Smith, and 51-year-old Peter Caponcini. Caponcini was arrested after the warrant was executed as he was attending the marijuana grow location. He was also charged with one count of breach of a release order and one count of possession of cocaine.

Warrants are being sought for 39-year-old Patrice Menard of Quebec and 48-year-old Terrance Brown of Welland. They will be facing the same charges as the other males already arrested.

This investigation was initiated by the 3 District Street Crime Unit which began in early Spring of 2015, involving the Assassins Motorcycle Gang. As a result of this investigation two suspected members of the gang have been arrested.
