A tree grows at St. Edward

There is a new tree growing on the grounds of St. Edward School in Jordan that will be nurtured by the present generation for the next generation to enjoy.

In honour of Arbour Day, the students in the Early Learning Kindergarten Program at St. Edwards Catholic school in Jordan, with help from Ivan Fredette, certified arbourist and owner of Safe Tree, planted a Cornus Alternifolia (Alternate Leaf Dogwood) tree.

St Edward’s new tree, is only 6-feet high now but will grow to 20-30 ft. offering large clusters of white flowers appear in spring, followed by dark blue berries on red stalks in midsummer.

Bishop Gerald Bergie, said a prayer and blessed the tree, the children affectionately named ‘George’ and promised to help it grow to its full size.

“I really enjoyed doing this for the kids, next year will even be bigger”, said Fredette.
