Peach Kings playoff run continues — Game 2 tonight in Glanbrook vs. the Rangers

Peach Kings rebound to take Game 1

The never-say-die Grimsby Peach Kings bounced back Sunday from a 3-1 deficit to take Game 1 of their Niagara District Jr. C finals in overtime, 4-3, in Glanbrook against the Rangers.

Glanbrook jumped out to a early lead just 1:20 into the contest with Dillon Cipretti – from James Thorpe and Marcus Brydon – noting the Peach Kings only goal in a 3-1 first frame.

Grimsby was also outshot 13-7 as Glanbrook dominated the period.

Although the second period was scoreless, Grimsby had taken the best Glanbrook had to offer and a powerplay goal by Matthew Jambrosich – from Brennan Smith – early in the third drew the Peach Kings within one.

Then, with only 3:13 left on the clock, Addison DeTullio evened the score – from Curtis Conrad and Cipretti.

That trio decided things just 21 seconds into overtime when Conrad tallied the winner – from DeTullio and Cipretti.

Game 2 in the finals, which is also the Schmalz Cup quarter-finals, tonight (Wednesday) in Glanbrook.  Grimsby will then play host to the Rangers for Game 3 – Friday, March 11 – and Game 4 – Sunday, March 13.  All games start at 7:30 PM.

The series promised to be close throughout as the two clubs played things super tight in the regular season

  • In the regular season, most games were very close between the two.
  • One game needed double-overtime to decide the winner.
  • The six-game regular season series went to Grimsby, winning 4-2, but they only outscored Glanbrook 20-19.

Remainder of the series schedule is:
*Game 5 – Wednesday, March 16 in Glanbrook
*Game 6 – Friday, March 18 in Grimsby
*Game 7 – Sunday, March 20 in Glanbrook
*If necessary
