Rain or shine, it is all systems go for Get Hip this Saturday

Eighteen-foot giant screen? Check.

Sound? Check.

Food? Check.

Kids activities? Check.

Great weather?

The jury is out on that one, but it won’t matter for Saturday’s (Aug. 20) Get Hip 4 Cancer on Grimsby’s Main Street.

“The weather has been iffy all week, but not us. We’re ready,” said Mark Woods, co-owner of 40 Public House and one of the Get Hip organizers.

With Main Street being closed near the end of the business day, 5 p.m., the kids’ activities and vendors will be ready to lift the lid at 6 p.m.

Calvin’s Magical Entertainment is donating a magic show at 6:30 p.m. As well, there will be balloon creations, painting and sidewalk chalk art also part of the mix.

Niagara Inflatables and Lynn Fee Keller Williams Complete Realty have sponsored two giant inflatables – Toy Story and Disney themed.

At 6:30 p.m., Off The Record will take to the stage to play live, sponsored by Chris Tew – Royal LePage Niagara RealEstate Centre and Fisher Stevenson Boehm Insurance.

Grimsby Hyundai is supplying complementary water for anyone who needs a drink. You Had Me At Pizza will have slices available and Boo’s Bar will have candy floss . Puddicombe Farms will have a fruit stand and fresh baked pie slices available with $1 from each slice and fruit basket going to CCS.

“We have had a great response. Everyone is donating their time and energy to raise a few bucks for Canadian Cancer Society and, hopefully, have a good time for a great cause.”

If not on the street, other downtown businesses have gotten into the spirit running features which will help raise funds, while both Cibo’s and Judge and Jester have plans in the works, Teddy’s will run “The Hip” of Beef on a bun special Aug. 18-20 with $3 from each order going to CCS.

“We’ve wanted to be as inclusive as possible with this and it is great everyone is helping way they can. More the merrier,” said Woods.

“Tickets for the VIP area are sold out, but we welcome everyone to come downtown, bring a lawn chair, have a snack and watch the show.”

The centre piece, is the Tragically Hip’s final concert, with the CBC airing being shown live at 8 p.m.
