Lincoln residents convicted of animal cruelty

Two Lincoln residents have been convicted on multiple counts of animal cruelty in connection with a February 2015 incident where 49 cats were removed from a residence in Beamsville.

Stella Dancer and her granddaughter Heather Robertson pled guilty to four counts each of the cruelty to animal charges laid against them.

In St. Catharines Provincial Offences court, a Justice of the Peace registered eight convictions and sentenced 75-year-old Dancer and 32-year-old Robertson each to the following:

  • $2,500 restitution to the Lincoln County Humane Society, payable over 3 years
  • 10-year ban from animal ownership (one cat is permitted to be owned)
  • Three years probation, and
  • A fine of $10 per count, for total fines of $40

In total 63 cats were either seized or relinquished by the owners since February of 2015.

“It is important that pet owners provide proper care for their pets at all times,” said Kevin Strooband, executive director of the Lincoln County Humane Society.

“If an owner is facing challenges relating to the care of their pet they are encouraged to contact their local Humane Society or SPCA”.
